“Those guys like, uh…I don’t know, we just had a lot of incredible history together. So when they called me over the summer, I just remember thinking one thing…gotta get lucky, right?”
Pharrell gave the game away at an HTC promotional performance in Brooklyn over the weekend, in which he played “Get Lucky,” his recent, long-awaited (to say the least) collaboration with French dance-pop duo Daft Punk, three times in a row.
Before that, you might have thought that “Get Lucky” was about what it sounded like it was about–a hope to get laid with an exciting stranger you just met. But now, you take Pharrell’s quote, and you look over the song’s lyrics, and it’s obvious what the song’s really about–how lucky the two legendary pop artists are to have found and be working with one another, and how they hope to get lucky in their first collaboration in ages.
Of course, there are some lyrics in “Get Lucky” that cloak the song with the veneer of one-night standdom. There are plenty of “she” references in the chorus–”She’s up all night till the sun / She’s up all night for good fun,” etc.–and lyrics like “If you wanna leave, I’m wit it” seems to only be about one thing.
But these lyrics are likely for the listener’s benefit, to make it more relateable and more applicable to the unforeseen hookups that the song will hopefully soundtrack across the globe in 2013, and to make it less insular to the two artists involved.

傻瓜龐克（英語：Daft Punk）是一個創立於法國巴黎的電子音樂團體，由蓋-馬努爾·德霍曼-克里斯托和湯瑪斯·本高特兩位唱片騎師於1992年組成。
他們將浩室與流行電音結合，在1990年代晚期浩室流行時逐漸成名，在法國1990年代的浩室浪潮中產生了非常大的影響，其所創作的音樂在法國浩室中扮演著重要的角色。樂團成員早期的風格亦受海灘男孩、滾石樂團及化學兄弟等知名樂團影響。
德霍曼-克里斯托和本高特兩人在樂團成立之前都是一個名為「Darlin'」樂團的成員。Darlin'這個三人樂團創立不到一年即解散，其中一位成員Laurent Brancowitz在解散之後加入鳳凰樂團，德霍曼-克里斯托及本高特則創立了傻瓜龐克，創作自己的實驗性音樂。
樂團在1997年推出首張專輯《家庭作業》即大獲好評，2001年的第二張專輯《迪斯可銀河大作戰》更為成功。專輯收錄了如《One More Time》、《Digital Love》及《Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger》等許多膾炙人口的單曲。這張專輯內的音樂影片還是由日本知名漫畫家松本零士負責製作。
